directed by Diana Dobreva
In 2019, the performance "Odyssey" based on Homer, created by Alexander Sekulov and Diana Dobreva for the program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture, became one of the landmark theatrical events of its time. Awarded prestigious national and international prizes, it left a lasting mark on contemporary Bulgarian theater with its scale, stage language, and bold combination of word, music, movement, and technology.
After eight years, we return to the same myth.
Not to repeat it.
Not to change it.
But to read it again.
Great myths do not change. It is the person telling them who changes.
The theater continuously passes under the arch of the myth of Odysseus, to regain its changing essence. The performance "ODYSSEY. SEA OF THE LIVING" will conclude the eight-year effort of the Drama Theater – Plovdiv to read the fate of the hero in a completely original way and to give a new scale to the eternal story that pits the traveling man against the gods, fate, and his own spirit.
Created specifically for the Ancient Theater – Plovdiv and dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the founding of the Drama Theater – Plovdiv.
The project is realized in partnership with the Municipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv" and the Municipality of Plovdiv.
