Jean-Pierre Jeunet is one of the most recognizable French directors of our time and the creator of cult films such as Amélie, The City of Lost Children, and Alien: Resurrection. For the screenplay of Flowers of the Lost Water, he once again joins forces with his longtime creative partner Guillaume Laurant, with whom he created the magic of Amélie.
Violette Trenet is the caretaker of a cemetery in a small town in Burgundy. It is a job that would repel many, but for her it has become a refuge and a means of salvation. There, she finds joy in simple things – caring for the flowers, fragrant tea, and freshly picked fruit. Her peace is disturbed by the arrival of a mysterious man who is trying to unravel long-buried secrets. Violette, in turn, is forced to confront her past in order to give life and love a new chance.
César Award winner Leïla Bekhti plays Violette, alongside Melvil Poupaud, Dominique Pinon, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Sergio Castellitto.
📚The film is an adaptation of Valérie Perrin’s literary phenomenon Flowers of the Lost Water, which has been translated into more than 30 languages and sold over a million copies worldwide. The book has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Maison de la Presse Prize, and in 2020 became the best-selling book in Italy.
