"AMADEUS" is an emotional and shattering story about genius and its shadow. About the light of talent and the darkness of envy. A deep and personal confession by SALIERI to the world.
MOZART and SALIERI's paths cross in Vienna, and this encounter changes their lives forever.
Stayko Murdzhev's production tells, with style and captivating force, of art as freedom and as a challenge to God.
In director Stayko Murdzhev's interpretation (Ikar 2020 for direction), the celebrated Italian ANTONIO SALIERI, First Kapellmeister at the court of JOSEPH II, is played by Stoyan Radev, winner of the Ikar Award for Best Actor. The role of the great Austrian composer will be played by Askeer winner for rising star Nencho Kostov.
“Peter Shaffer's ideas are polar opposites, but at the same time they are unified in their polarity, if I may put it that way. He portrays Mozart as—as he himself calls him—a cynical and vulgar child who does foolish things and leads a morally low life, while at the same time creating extraordinary music that is actually his inner light. And the even greater wound in the production is Salieri. We are accustomed to thinking of Salieri as that one-dimensional envious and jealous man, but Peter Shaffer actually offers us, beneath this mask, a person who fights for justice, who stands up for his own truth, who would defend it even before God. The story we tell with the actors is actually a story about fighting with God through Mozart,” the director shares in an interview with Violeta Toncheva.
The production is not recommended for persons under 14.
